ABSTRACT
The aim of this paper is to assess the operational capabilities of the Air Rescue Service (ARS) in Poland. The research work covers a literature review on legal aspects, structure of ARS, and its importance. On the basis of historical data and specific events, the advantages and opportunities offered by the use of helicopters in rescue operations in comparison to conventional ambulances in terms of means of transport used by Medical Rescue Teams were shown. The research problem concerning the necessity of ARS operational capability on the whole country area was described, and the usefulness of such system was justified. Different cases of coverage of the RP were analyzed and flaws in the system were pointed out. The analysis carried out served as a basis for drawing conclusions and proposing particular improvement opportunities.
